This comic is in response to this video: To clarify, I actually like John Green as a person and enjoyed The Fault in our Stars, but his statements about authors who choose to self publish really rubbed me the wrong way. I think it’s a personal choice whether an individual goes ahead with self publishing or chooses the traditional route, but is it necessary to slam others in the process? He recently mentioned on his twitter account that he has nothing against those that self publish. But how am I to accept that when he made the disrespectful statements in the video above? While the comic may be interpreted as offensive, it’s truly just satire. There are pluses and minuses to being a self-pubber or a traditional author, and I have nothing against those who see the benefits of pursuing a publisher. But saying in full seriousness that indie authors are all selfish, far-right, untalented, and solitary loners is downright offensive.
